High School of the Dead

Published by:

High School of the Dead is one of my go to animes. Is a show with zombies new? Not by any stretch of the imagination but this show does it better than a lot of movies do. It does some things well and of course it has it’s faults too but does more well than it doesn’t.

The show revolves around a group of students who go to school as if it’s an ordinary day but end up in a zombie apocalypse. This is not a moe version of zombies like School Live! This is a much more hardcore zombie fest with blood, slashing, bashing and killing. The action starts right from the beginning so there’s no drama leading up to it, you just get zombies on the move and a little background on how the school got over run. The main characters are a group of students who team up together for their survival in this new zombie infested world. Continue reading

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0

Published by:

The show is based on the premise that there is a 70% possibility of a magnitude 7 earthquake in Japan in the next 30 years or so. It depicts what it could be like in Tokyo if that were to occur.

The story revolves around Mirai, a middle school girl who takes her little brother Yuuki to Tokyo’s artificial Odaiba Island for a robot exhibition. It started out as a simple summer vacation trip but wound up being a lot more than just that. A powerful earthquake hits and destroys Rainbow Bridge, takes down Tokyo Tower and other places around Tokyo end up completely devastated. In Odaiba, they meet a motorcycle delivery person named Mari. Upon learning that they live near one another and they form a pact to get back to the western Tokyo together.  Continue reading

The Unlimited – Hyōbu Kyōsuke (Zettai Karen Children: The Unlimited)

Published by:

The Unlimited is another show that I feel was overlooked and underrated. As you know, I love the end of the world, sci-fi, super power type shows so my opinion may be biased. Screw it, it probably is biased but that doesn’t mean this show is any less of a quality show.

So what is The Unlimited about? I’m glad you asked. The Unlimited takes place in an alternate world where there are “normal” humans and also espers who are humans that have evolved to the point of having ESP. But we all know that humans have a hard time adjusting and accepting people who are different, so the espers are treated like freaks. Hyobu is an esper who exceeds the others though and because of it, he’s been scarred by those around him and society at large. He’s a fugitive and one of the world’s most wanted espers even though he’s just trying to free his fellow espers. His answer to this treatment was to form an organization, known as PANDRA, that strives to protect espers and their rights, usually by force.  Continue reading

K-On! (Keion!)

Published by:

K-On! is a show that has been on my list for a while but not by choice. It has been talked about a lot and I had to see why all the fuss. Whether positive or negative, it gets talked about a lot. Whether it’s because a lot of people think it’s a show about nothing or big eyebrows (Mugi does have some big ones). I’m not a fan of moe shows but if a show is quality then I’ll watch. This one was more for curiosity plus I’m a big fan of Kyoto’s projects. I even had someone ask me how I see my manga I’m writing and Kyoto was the answer. I’ll talk a little about Kyoto at a later date.

K-On! is about a group of girls who try to restart the light music club at their new school. The main focus is Yui, a carefree girl who signs up for club, not knowing what they do or how to play an instrument. The girls of the club are facing disbandment so they convince Yui to stay and the adventure begins. On top of going to school and homework, Yui has to learn to play an instrument ahead of the school festival. Continue reading

Seitokai Yakuindomo

Published by:

The show is about Takatoshi Tsuda and his first year at the newly gender integrated school. Due to declining birth rates, Osai Academy is converted from an all girls school to a co-ed school. On his first day, Takatoshi ends up getting recruited for the student council and his life will never be the same. The girls of the student council are definitely ‘unique’ to put it lightly.

The first season goes mostly through Takatoshi learning about the school and his interactions with the other council members. This is a rapid fire show kind of like Chronicles of the Going Home Club or Teekyu but not as fast as those seem to be, definitely not as fast as Teekyu. It’s a regular 22 minute show (OVAs are longer) with the show split into several segments, probably about 2-3 minutes each for the segments, some longer, some shorter. Be forewarned that there are a LOT of insertion jokes. A LOT. Continue reading

Dodge Battle High Characters

Published by:

I know I said I wanted to do a Kickstarter in November but work came and then laptop issues that stopped me from being able to write and on and on and on. But I do have someone on Deviantart who has been doing some character art for me. They may or may not be the final look of the characters but it’s something to go on. He also did the main character of my 2nd game Borne by Blood.

The main characters aren’t done yet though. I held off on them but these are a few of the other characters. I’m not going to give too much background info on them yet. I want to wait until closer to the Kickstarter. Aoi, Akihiro and Hoshiko aren’t done but I have an idea which way they’re going.

This is Kazue, Akihiro’s older sister.

These are Chideko and Yuno, a brother and sister who will play major roles in the beginning.

Technically this is Aoi but she’s getting a bit of a change.

These are Akihiro’s little twin brother and sister Akira and Akiko

There are some other random art pieces done by others on Deviantart too which I will post at a later date.

Steins;Gate (Shutainzu Gēto)

Now if I said there was time travelling in an anime, you’d probably look at me and say “so what?” But what if I told you there was one that is based on the actual theory and not just jumping in a time machine? What if I told you that the name John Titor is heavily involved? Interested yet? I know that sci-fi can be over some people’s heads or be too obtuse but here it’s laid out in a way that is easy to follow.

Okabe the “mad scientist”, along with his childhood friend Mayuri and an otaku hacker Daru, have formed a club known as the “Future Gadget Research Laboratory,” and they spend their time hanging out and attempting to invent futuristic gadgets. None of their inventions really does anything much until they make the Phone Microwave which transforms bananas into a green ooze. When one of their tests goes sideways, they discover that thePhone Microwave can send text messages to the past. When they start sending messages and changing events, they are not prepared for the ramifications of messing with timelines. Especially Okabe who seems to be the only one unaffected by the timeline jumping and can remember everything from every timeline.

Aura: Koga Maryuin’s Last War (Aura: Maryūinkōga Saigo no Tatakai)

Published by:

A kid named Ichirou Satou used to call himself ‘Koga Maryuin’ and went around like he was a hero in a fantasy world. His actions caused him to get bullied and made him have to leave school. Some time has passed and he’s at a new school as a ‘normal’ boy but the past beckons him as he meets a girl who cosplays in a blue cape. She calls herself a researcher who is travelling from another world to search for something called the ‘Dragon Terminal’. This girl tries to recruit Ichirou to be her assistant.

Ichirou rejects her but she keeps pushing and he just can’t flat out tell her no even though he’s trying to escape his former self and be ‘normal’. He sees himself, in her and maybe that’s why he can’t completely say no. Then one day, at school, he sees her getting the same treatment that he did so he goes along with her requests. This leads them down a road that neither of them could have seen coming. Continue reading
