Kagaku na Yatsura

Published by:

I don’t even know where to begin with this one. It’s a one shot OVA of about 22 minutes or so. Known as a “science trouble” romantic comedy. This came with one of the volume’s of the manga.

You get a very brief introduction to the situation when it jumps right into a scene with Komaba Haruki and his female friends. You have a cyborg named Airi and a half dog girl named Ayana, assuming they are this way due to experiments they’ve done on themselves since Ayana kind of hints at it. Right away you notice some BIG differences in the two but both are after Komaba in their own way. Ayana is a very very very well developed girl who is sweet to a fault. So sweet that she doesn’t even realize that she should be on the offensive when it comes to Komaba, sometimes she even roots for Airi. Airi is very tsundere-y and much more direct to a degree. You can at least tell she is after Komaba where with Ayana it’s not always so obvious. But there is another player in this, Ayana’s sister who is also as developed as Ayana, if not more. She stands up for Ayana’s side of this love triangle and tries to get her to realize she needs to be more forceful. Continue reading

Dragonar Academy (Seikoku no Doraguna)

Published by:

Dragonar Academy was recently dubbed and I decided to check it out. I never watched it the first time around so this was a new one for me.

It takes place in a land of dragons and breeders. The breeders are chosen by the mother dragon. The mother dragon chooses who she deems worthy and brands them with a mark known as a Seikoku (star brand). These star brands would be like a normal sized tattoo these days but Ash is branded with a massive full sleeve like brand. Over time the dragons will manifest to their breeders. The issue for Ash is that his has not appeared yet while everyone else at the academy has their dragon. This makes Ash “The Problem Child”, he can control other dragons but doesn’t have one of his own. Continue reading

Aki Sora

Published by:

One of the first things you’ll notice about Aki Sora is the tags I gave it. Yes I hit it with the Hentai and Incest tags. I’ll get into that a little later. But not much later since Aki Sora is only a 3 episode OVA.

Sora is a teenage boy who alway would say “I love you” to his older sister. Seems harmless so far right? But as he gets older, he finds it harder to say those words to his sister. Still seems like a normal teenage boy right? One day his sister Aki decides to show her feelings towards him and they go beyond a sister/brother bond. Sora was questioning what was going on but then he gave in to emotion. Of course society wouldn’t understand so they kept this secret love to themselves. But Sora has a twin sister who seems to be in love with a girl who seems to be in love with Sora. Add these two to the mix and you get one wild ride. Continue reading

Sky Wizard’s Academy (Kūsen Madōshi Kōhosei no Kyōkan)

Published by:

This is a show from summer 2015 which started off like your typical ecchi. A guy runs into a girl and ends up seeing skin or panties or lands in an awkward situation with the usually most tsundere character of the cast and this was no different. But the show is much more than just ecchiness, it really didn’t have that much ecchi.

In Sky Wizard’s Academy, humanity was driven to the brink of extinction by magical armored insects and now live in floating cities. What defends these floating cities are wizards who can combat this menace. There is an academy located on Misutogan where our story takes place. Kanata Age is the former elite of a special team that protects Misutogan but now he is known as a traitor and to stick it to him, he’s given the role of instructor of a group of misfits who have been defeated over and over. Kanata’s job is to get them to work together and become a competent team which is much harder than expected due to the personality clashes. Continue reading

Yuki Yuna is a Hero (Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru)

Published by:

The cover art is so misleading on this show. While they are schoolgirls, there is a lot more to this show than that. The story takes place in Shikoku, an island of Japan in the distant future. Though if you read previews you will notice it says the year 300 but it’s in another era. Yuna and her friends Mimori, Fu and Itsuki are members of a ‘Hero Club’ at Sanshu Middle School where they help people with small tasks like finding cats, etc. One day the Hero Club is caught in a burst of light and transported to a forest where they encounter these creatures called Vertex which are out to destroy the Shinju, a deity that protects humanity. Yuna and her friends are transformed into magical girl heroes to save the Shinju and the world. But there is more to the story than that so, tune in. Continue reading

To LOVE Ru Darkness 1st & 2nd season (To LOVEru Toraburu Dākunesu)

Published by:

In season 1 of To LOVE Ru, Rito met Lala and had many adventures and fights to defend her. In season 2 we were introduced to Lala’s sisters, Momo and Nana who were the main focus of that season with Lala taking a minor role. Season 3 brought some changes to the series that I’m not sure were positive. You went from the highly energetic Lala to Lala’s trouble making sisters to the most stoic character with Lala waaaaaaaaaaay in the background.

Being that it’s subtitled Darkness, yes it’s mostly about the ‘Golden Darkness’. Continue reading

Gokujo: Gokurakuin Joshikōryō Monogatari (Extreme Woman. The Tales of Gokurakuin Girls School Dorm)

Published by:

The story of Gokujo is about the misadventures of Akabane Aya. She’s an cocky, self assured high school girl who is always trying to outdo everyone else in just about everything. The one thing she really overdoes it in is sex appeal, she thinks she’s like a gift from the heavens and she ends up making herself look like a fool in most cases. The school she attends is an all girl school so there is a lot of yuriness. Continue reading

Noucome (Nōkome) aka My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with my School Romantic Comedy (Ore no Nōnai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Rabu Kome o Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru)

Published by:

The premise of the show is a unique one. Well unique at the time but others have probably tried something similar. Kanade Amakusa is a high school student who is suffering from a curse called “Absolute Choices”. The curse forces him to choose from 2 or 3 options and he has no control over where or when it occurs.  Due to this, Kanade has a bad reputation with his classmates since the curse usually has him do weird or perverse things.

One day when Kanade is walking home from school, he gets hit with an Absolute Choice and the choice he picks causes a beautiful teenage girl to fall from the sky. What Kanada learns about the girl is that she is sent to help him with his mission to cure his curse. Though there is a problem with that, she doesn’t remember anything. Kanade must help her to regain her memory and figure out how to cure the Absolute Choice curse. Continue reading

Mazinkaizer SKL (Majinkaizā SKL)

Published by:

Mazinkaizer is a 3 part OVA so they do leave out a little background and drop you right into the action. There are 3 factions fighting for dominance of Machine Island, where all 3 are currently occupying. It’s an island prison that is isolated from the rest of the world. To make sure of this fact, a “Gravity Prison” was formed and only machines created by the worldwide government can enter the area. The 3 factions are allowed to use the resources of the island to create robots and machinery for their armies.

Where the show kicks in is where there are 66 hours left to prevent the Gravity Prison from exploding. The Gravity Prison is in an unstable state and will explode, destroying the Earth and human life. Each if the 3 factions controls part of the mechanism that controls the Prison. The WSO, knowing the danger of the Prison remaining in it’s current state sends in the Skull Force. Skull Force has 2 squads and one of those squads is a 2 member unit known as the Death Caprice Squad and they pilot a Mazinger known as Mazinkaizer SKL. Continue reading
