The Radio Wave-Like Girlfriend (Denpa teki na Kanojo)

Juu Juuzawa is labelled as a delinquent by those in his school because his blond hair but he’s just high school boy who just wants to be left alone. Then one day an odd girl appears and gives him a story which he doesn’t believe. She tells him that she is someone from a past life, where he is her king and she’s his knight. She tells him that she wants to stand by his side and be of assistance to him. You do learn the meaning of the past lives this later in the OVA though you’ll have to pay attention since it’s a visual clue, a brief one at that.

Juu wants nothing to do with Ame since he thinks she is crazy and her actions would definitely lead someone to believe that. But while all this is going on, there are murders happening around the city and Ame seems to have some knowledge into what’s going on. When one of their classmates is murdered, Juu finally accepts her help and the adventure to find the killer begins.

Everything in the show is crisp except for a few spots where the art drops out a bit. There are some interesting camera shots, well anime shots drawn to look like camera shots. When characters go into explaining things, you’ll see different angles and shots. The characters are all somewhat interesting in their own way but there isn’t much development of character since the show isn’t that long. The plot is more of an general plot due to time constraints but even at the rushed pace it’s not too bad. If they had more time then I feel this could have been given the time it truly needed to be fleshed out.

The show is actually 2 OVAs based on the 1st and 3rd novel in the series. There is no word if the 2nd will get an adaptation. Both OVAs are about 41 minutes each including the ending theme so it’s not a major time sink if you decide to check it out.
