Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magika)

Published by:

Puella Magi Madoka Magica? Really dawg? You watched that? Yes, yes I did…one of the sites that does top ten lists had this list of gruesome murders and it was on it so I had to see what happened. I will say that the murder was pretty brutal so I have to go find that site and thank them.

On the face of this one, you would think it’s just a shiny magical girl show but it’s not. Trust me, it’s not. It starts off looking like one but this show is much much darker than that. Where else would you see magical girls using guns or trying to kill each other? The magical girl game is getting hardcore. Don’t take that for the whole show being like that, it’s not an action show for the most part. It does have it’s girly girly moments too but there was a lot that I didn’t expect from this one. A lot.

Gunplay that would rival some serious action shows.

Madoka is a middle school student who along with her friend Sayaka, encounter a creature known as Kyubey. This creature offers to make a contract with them to be magical girls but a transfer student named Homura stops Madoka from forming the contract. Along the way, Madoka and Sayaka meet another magical girl named Mami who brings them along on witch hunts so they can see what being a magical girl is about. Madoka learns quickly that it’s a pretty cruel lifestyle filled with danger, anguish, suffering and even death. This is only the beginning od the journey for Madoka, Sayaka and Homura. Overlord (Ōbārōdo)

Published by:

Overlord and Gangsta were my most anticipated shows of the summer. It was really just the names. Gangsta and Overlord. It just sounds like a ton of action and asses getting kicked which they both were.

The show is set in the world of Yggdrasil, an MMORPG that is being shut down. Momonga is one of the last players left after the servers are shut down and when he goes to log out, he’s stuck in the game. So what would you do if you were locked in and no way out but you were a top level player? The first thing that should come to your mind is take over the world which is now your reality and rule it with an iron fist and that’s just what he plans to do. Continue reading

Akame ga Kill! (Akame ga Kiru!)

Published by:

So a kid named Tatsumi goes into the Capitol to get a job in the army to try to save his village and he gets conned by a tall statuesque woman. With nothing left, he gets picked up on the side of the road by a girl from a rich family who SEEMS to take an interest in him, though he later learns that interest is a sinister one.

That’s just a prelude to the true story. Tatsumi gets to see, first hand, the death and corruption spreading through the land, starting with the family he is now staying with. This is where he meets a group of assassins named Night Raid and he is reunited with the woman who conned him, Leone. While he should be more upset over the situation, Leone saves his life and opens his eyes. She also drags him along to meet Night Raid and “recruits” him by force to help rid the Capitol of corruption. Continue reading

Seraph of the End (Owari no Serafu)

Published by:

Seraph of the End is a show from the past spring season which actually brought us some very good shows. This was indeed one of them even though it took a while to build up to the action. Seraph really does start off slow. At first it looked like it was going to be sparkling vampires and BL all over the place. It does take a few episodes to see where they’re going in terms of direction of the show and that’s probably because they knew they had a second season coming.

The actual story is about a ravaged Earth that was destroyed in 2012 by a human made virus that killed anyone over the age of 13. This leads to the uprising of the vampires. They come from the depths of the Earth to take control of most of the planet and offer “protection” to survivors. That “protection” comes at a price, they have to give their blood to the vampires who need it to survive. Yuichiro and Mikaela plan to escape to the outside world but in their attempt, Mikaela is caught and sacrifices himself so Yuichiro can escape. Yuichiro has since vowed revenge on the vampires for killing his “family” and now has backup to help accomplish that goal. Continue reading

Bastard!!

Published by:

Bastard!! Yes, I just watched it because I thought it would be funny if someone asked me what I was watching.

Friend: Hey what were you watching
Me: Bastard!!
Friend: Dude, I just asked what you were watching.
Me: Bastard!!

Anyway, Bastard!! This one is an older one so I hope you’re not expecting slick presentation and all that. Back in it’s day, this would probably have been near the top of the list. Like a Flash Gordon, He-Man, etc. If it came out when those did then it would fit right in. Continue reading
