One Punch Man (Wanpanman)

Published by:

One Punch Man is the show that seemed to quietly sneak up on people. I, myself, gave up on the show after an episode or 2 but when I kept seeing it trending on Twitter and everyone talking about it, I just had to get back in. Though it took someone saying One Punch Man was his Food Wars. Food Wars is the show that I described as one that I didn’t want to watch but something kept drawing me back in.

Yes, as the name suggests, there’s a man and one punch involved. He can win any fight in one punch basically and that’s what caused me to stop watching BUT there is much more to the show than that. Saitama the main protagonist becomes bored with his super ability and the lack of recognition that he gets for saving humanity. This starts his search for a more normal life until he meets a Cyborg named Genos who sees his as some kind of god. Continue reading

Robot Girls Z

Published by:

I’m going to cover Toei Robot Girls OVA, Robot Girls Z, Robot Girls Z+ (current season) and Robot Girls Z Specials in one page.

I don’t know how I didn’t notice the show at first glance. A few months ago Robot Girls Z+ started and I was looking at it saying “they look familiar”. Well duh they should have, I saw the OVA and I used to watch the original shows that the girls were based on.

The girls are dressed as robots from the Toei catalog. Team Z is the personification of robots from the Mazinger Z franchise: Mazinger Z (Z-chan), Great Mazinger (Gai-chan) and UFO Robot Grendizer (Grenda-chan). Continue reading

Martian Successor Nadesico (Kidou Senkan Nadesico)

Published by:

It is the year 2196 and the Earth is at war with a race of aliens called the Jovian Lizards. The Nadesico is a battleship created by the Nergal company. The ship is a powerful battleship that protects the galaxy but it’s manned by a crew of oddballs. They’re actually experts in their fields but have some serious personality disorders.

The crew takes on several jobs where they have to launch their mecha fighters known as Aestivalis. The Aestivalis are like the enforcers and first line of defense. They have more experienced pilots but Akito, a novice and backup pilot has to fight and learn how to, at the same time which leads to some interesting situations. He’d rather cook and watch an anime called Gekiganger 3 than fight the war. What Akito doesn’t know, since he can’t get answers from anyone, is that he is one of the most powerful weapons that the Nadesico has. Continue reading

Katte ni Kaizou

Published by:

Katsu Kaizou is a gullible 17 year old high school student who believes in aliens, UFOs, ghosts, conspiracies, etc. He seems to think everything that goes on around him is because of some plot.

This show is ridiculousness times 5. Most anime tropes can be found in this show References to Dragon Ball, Powerpuff Girls, Harry Potter and other shows/movies. Each sub-story is pretty much it’s own entity and extremely bizarre. There is no consistent plot, it’s similar to shows like Going Home Club, Ai Mai Mi, Plastic Nee-san and others. Continue reading

Ninja Nonsense: The Legend of Shinobu (Ninin ga Shinobuden?, 2×2 = Shinobuden)

Published by:

Ninja Nonsense doesn’t sound like the name of a serious anime does it. Well it’s not, Ninja Nonsense is anything but serious. I saw the name and just had to see what it was about.

The show revolves around a female “ninja” named Shinobu. She is sent on a quest to steal a girl’s panties and comes across Kaede. Shinobu thinks she’s invisible but Kaede watches her as she tries to sneak around. Taking pity on Shinobu, Kaede becomes friends with her or as Shinobu says “more than friends but less than lovers” and she means it, trust me but this is where their adventures begin. Continue reading

Ai Mai Mi and Ai Mai Mi: Mousou Catastrophe

Published by:

Ai Mai Mii is another short anime where each episode is only a few minutes. Like some of the others like Plastic Nee San and Chitose Get You, it’s school based.

Ai, Mai and Mii end up in some weird situations including some that include their senpai Ponoka. There’s aliens, Mi ends up eating cat food,  teleportation, somehow two of them walk from Japan to New Jersey and all types of crazy things going on when they aren’t drawing manga. Continue reading

No-Rin (Nōrin)

Published by:

Yes, it’s an anime about farming. I’m dead serious.

No-Rin is an anime about farming but from a comedic standpoint with some ecchiness thrown in. Do you learn anything about farming? Maybe a little. The show starts out with a pop star who gives up the lifestyle which devastates Hata Kosaku, a student at an agricultural school. Little did he know that she would end up at that same school under a false name. Continue reading
