The story of TokyoESP starts with Rinka, a poor high school girl who lives with her father. One day on her way home from school, she chases a flying penguin to the top of Tokyo Tower. Then a strange phenomenon occurs. She sees flying goldfish and one of them ends up going through her body, giving her supernatural powers. The power to slip through solid objects. Continue readingby
I’m sure some of you have been waiting for the Dimension W dub version. Well guess what? It’s going straight to Toonami. This is a first for broadcast dubs to air while the show is still on in Japan. It won’t even be available on Funimation.com until 2 weeks after it airs. I guess you can say Space Dandy may be a first since it was shown dubbed and subbed at the same time but it was before Funimation started doing broadcast dubs. Funimation is on the production committee for the show and it seems like they went in big time on Dimension W. I like the show and hope it gets more than a 12 episode run because so far it looks like something that needs more than 12 to tell the story.
Needless is a show I bypassed when it came out but decided to give it a chance recently. Not even sure why I bypassed it before since dystopian future type of stuff usually draws me in.
The story takes place in a future where a Third World War has taken place. A war that has brought worldwide chaos and also creates room for a new species known as Needless. Needless are humans who have contracted a ‘disease’ that allows them to wield new powers that mankind could only dream of. They’re able to control gravity, telekenesis, adapting, elementals and several other powers that you only see in comic books. Continue readingby
This is a show from summer 2015 which started off like your typical ecchi. A guy runs into a girl and ends up seeing skin or panties or lands in an awkward situation with the usually most tsundere character of the cast and this was no different. But the show is much more than just ecchiness, it really didn’t have that much ecchi.
In Sky Wizard’s Academy, humanity was driven to the brink of extinction by magical armored insects and now live in floating cities. What defends these floating cities are wizards who can combat this menace. There is an academy located on Misutogan where our story takes place. Kanata Age is the former elite of a special team that protects Misutogan but now he is known as a traitor and to stick it to him, he’s given the role of instructor of a group of misfits who have been defeated over and over. Kanata’s job is to get them to work together and become a competent team which is much harder than expected due to the personality clashes. Continue readingby
Air Gear is dated due to what the subject matter is but that doesn’t take away from the show. Air Treks (roller blades) are sweeping the nation and ‘gangs’ are being formed around Air Treks for control of territory. Itsuki (Ikki) a ‘tough’ middle school kid who lives with his 4 sisters knew nothing about Air Treks until he has his ass handed to him by a ‘gang’ called the Storm Riders. So Ikki started to pick up Air Treks and building his own gang which leads to many adventures and secrets about the people around him. Continue readingby
For some reason I stopped watching the show. It wasn’t because I didn’t like the show. I think it was because Crunchyroll decided to pull it’s app from OUYA for no logical reason yet they released it for Wii which has been dead for a while but I digress. Yes I stream my stuff through the OUYA, rather do that then watch on a laptop. On with the show…
RWBY takes place in a world called Remnant. It’s a world filled with supernatural forces, shadowy creatures known as ‘Creatures of Grimm’ and also high tech weaponry. Prior to the events of the series, mankind fought a battle of survival against the Creatures of Grimm before they discovered an element called Dust. Dust allowed the humans to fight back because it’s what powers their abilities and also their weapons. Where the story for the show comes in is the training of new hunters and huntresses to help in the battle against the Creatures of Grimm. Beacon Academy in the city of Vale is where they come together to learn and train their abilities, this is where they meet the others who will be battling alongside them. Continue readingby
Brynhildr in the Darkness was just a show I picked up randomly. The show is centered on Ryouta Murakami, a teenage boy who can’t forget a female friend who he let die in an accident. Due to his guilt over the situation, he continues to look up at the sky every night to fulfill their promise to prove alien life exists. Then one day a girl named Neko Kuroha transfers into his class, she has a similar name and look to his childhood friend. When she displays the fact that she has super strength by saving Ryouta from an accident, he learns that she is a magic user who escaped from a research lab. From that point on, Ryouta becomes her support system and tries to help her live a normal lives but she isn’t the only runaway that he discovers. Continue readingby
GATE actually has a long history. It was posted online in 2006, became a book in 2010, a manga in 2012 and now we are given the anime version. If you read the manga then you will probably notice the differences because there are several, though they aren’t major.
The show starts with a portal from another world opening in Tokyo. Soldiers and monsters come through the portal and start attacking the city. Yoji Itami happens to be on the street and you see him fighting off some of the ‘enemies’ with the JSDF. Itami and the JSDF mobilize a squad to enter the portal to the other world to set up a base of operation and to force those from the other world into an open peace negotiation. What the JSDF finds out is that the world beyond the portal is full of magic, dragons and elves. Yoji Itami being a world class otaku, uses his knowledge of the fantasy genre to make his way in this new world and tries to help push negotiations along. Itami has no idea what he’s in for when this journey to the other side really gets underway. Continue readingby
Read or Die may sound like an after school special or something but it’s definitely not. It’s actually a 3 epiode OVA, spy story. Yomiko Readman is the protagonist of this story. A bookish, high school teacher who has a very childlike nature about her. She’s attached to a book that seems to be the target of many other people.
Yomiko, known as “The Paper”, has some supernatural power to control paper, hence the name. A few others in the show have power too like Ms. Deep, who happens to be her partner. They are protecting Yomiko’s book from historical figures who happen to come from books and another more sinister force. Continue readingby
If you haven’t seen Black Rock Shooter than I bet you’re thinking it’s like a Black Lagoon type of show or something. Well, it’s not.
The OVA and the series center around Mato Kuroi but the stories differ. The OVA has a very happy and sweet Mato who befriends Yomi Takanashi. Well she’s very happy in general but in the OVA she just seems as if nothing could get her down. When the two friends decide to go play sports, they join different teams, Mato joins the basketball team and Yomi joins volleyball. Mato befriends a girl named Yuu from the basketball team and Yomi becomes jealous then suddenly disappears. The OVA serves as the background story and the introduction to the entity known as Black Rock Shooter. Continue readingby
