Seraph of the End: Battle in Nagoya is the second season of Seraph of the End. Not too much changes here as it’s a continuation from the first season. A direct continuation.
If you remember the first season, the vampires came hard and fast after the Moon Demon Company but this time they’re bringing to war to the vampire’s doorstep. It’s pretty much a number of flashbacks, battles and more battles with some infighting too. There are also a lot of intersecting storylines with different people with different agendas so there is a bit of intrigue.
While I did like this season, it failed in several categories. Sure it was great to have more action and fighting but the tropes were really heavy here. The BL like Mika and Yu thing was even more awkward than the first season. For some reason someone made this comparison and I think it fits. They tried to turn this into Attack on Titan. If you look deeper, you will see a BIG similarity between Yu and Eren and even some of the surrounding characters. Speaking of characters, so many were introduced that you barely got to know anything about them, though in an end of the world scenario you can’t learn too much but it seemed like overkill for 12 episodes.
The sound dropped off big time. In the first season it was more fitting but now the opening theme sounds like something from a magical girl show. What’s up with that? Even music in the show was not as good as the first season though the first season had it’s issues too. Everything else is solid for lack of a better word.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the show. It’s a fun watch but don’t watch it for plot or anything like that. Watch for the battles. They did leave it off where there could be a season 3 for there may be more Seraph. I just hope it’s a little more consistent with the first season than the second. Second seasons are tough for anime because a lot of them know it’s game over and try to pull out all stops so that they have the hope of a third. As you know, I hate when a show can’t tell it’s full story.
