Kyōkai no Kanata: I’ll Be Here (Beyond the Boundary: I’ll Be Here)

Kyokai no Kanata: Kako-hen and Kyokai no Kanata: Mirai-hen the 2 part movie project that came out earlier this year, also known as Beyond the Boundary: I’ll Be Here. Off the back of a beautifully done 12 episode season, we were given 2 movies which have a lot to live up to.

Let’s start with Kako-hen, it’s a retelling of the first season. If you missed the first season of the show then you need to go watch it. The movie is obviously a condensed version of the season. This movie does not include the OVA which is a prequel to the events of the first season but it does give a little insight into it with the first 5 minutes. It does clear up a few things that were left to interpretation.

Mirai-hen is obviously more about Mirai. I don’t want to say too much about the 2nd movie because it would give away the whole plot. Mirai-hen starts right from where the season ends or the first movie, whichever you watched since they end in the same place. The events of Kako-hen were life changing for all the characters of the show and had lasting effects. In Mirai-hen these events start to unravel and Mirai and Akihito are faced with major life changing decisions.

Making a post about the movies means I get to post another gif of Mirai.

At this point I don’t think I have to tell you anything about the animation and how beautifully this show is put together. This show is a work of art. Seems like almost everything that Kyoto Animation is a part of is done to near perfection. Yes, the same Kyoto Animation who did the original Haruhi Suzumiya.

It’s really a shame that this perfectly bookends the show. No waiting around for OVAs or a sequel, it’s all been told. I guess they can come up with something or a new story to tell but this show and the movies were perfect. The OVA is the story from before the show, the show is 12 episodes off enjoyment, the 1st movie is a retelling of the 12 episodes and the 2nd movie closes it all out. There are some shorts that are on the DVD and some ONAs but those are just bonuses. For the most part everything is wrapped up. I highly recommend Beyond the Boundary and not just for fans of specific genres, just anyone who truly likes anime.
