Oneechan ga Kita

Oneechan ga Kita is a short form show where every episode is only 2-3 minutes. These type of shows used to be dreadful but there are some exceptions in recent times. I was one of the people who hated short form shows but they have been getting better and some have even become full fledged shows. I reviewed Military! which was one of the dreadful ones but you also have shows like Haiyoru! Nyaruani, The Comic Artist and His Assistants and Comical Psychosomatic Medicine where they put a little more effort in.

Oneechan ga Kita is one that I feel deserves a little attention. It’s a story of a blended family. 13 year old Tomoya’s father re-marries and his new mother has a 17 year old daughter named Ichika who seems to be in love with Tomoya before they even meet. Every episode gets under way when Tomoya’s says “When my dad remarried I got a weird older sister.”

She might be just a little obsessive. Just a little…

Ichika is not just in love with him where she wishes he was there all the time, she is full on yandere. Openly shows her emotions towards him at all time, very protective, very stalkery and ready to slice off anyone she sees as competition. Tomoya is 13 so he doesn’t know how to react to her, he’s still in that awkward phase where guys try to figure out how to talk to girls and be with them and all that. This doesn’t hurt the back and forth interactions between the two at all, I think it actually enhances it.

The show isn’t a show that shows off art or anything like that since it’s short form but what they have is passable. The characters don’t get enough time to be fleshed out as expected. If they do decide to make this into a full fledged show, I’ll be watching. It’s awkward, funny, weird but a nice little story. If you do check it out, there is also an OVA which gives background on where Ichika’s feelings for Tomoya started. I’d say watch it AFTER the show, not before.
