Parasyte (Kiseijū)

Published by:

Parasyte is a show from last season which seems to be drawing a lot of comparisons to Tokyo Ghoul. If the two shows are similar then I’m sure I will enjoy Tokyo Ghoul too. I guess that gives you a hint of where I’m going with this review.

Parasyte centers around a teenager named Shinichi Izumi, who lives in Tokyo with his parents. Then one night, these worm like creatures known as Parasytes invade the Earth. Their method of invasion is through taking over a host body by entering the brain via the ears or nose. Since Shinichi is wearing headphones at the time of his Parasyte visit, the Parasyte tries to enter through his arm. Shinichi feels the movement and is able to stop the Parasyte from getting to his brain and it’s only able to control his right arm. Hence, the name “Migi” meaning right.

Since Shinichi is able to keep Migi from taking over his brain Continue reading

Astra Etherium is Getting Closer

Published by:

Unfortunately, Astra Etherium didn’t make the end of March date I had hoped. There were some other issues that popped up, the HUD had to be redesigned and just a bunch of other things that are out of my control. Anyone who knows me knows, I hate when things are out of my control when it comes to my projects.

Astra Etherium will still have most of the features mentioned like leaderboards, achievements, etc. but Nuggeta changed their API so 2 player online may be dropped for now. Every time we seem to be near the finish line, something else pops up. Just like when I thought I had an easy solution to the localization issue and the asset had to be pulled. I have someone helping on the code side and he actually coded something himself which I’m sure took time though he hasn’t told me how much time he spent on that (he might be avoiding answering the question.)

The Radio Wave-Like Girlfriend (Denpa teki na Kanojo)

Published by:

Juu Juuzawa is labelled as a delinquent by those in his school because his blond hair but he’s just high school boy who just wants to be left alone. Then one day an odd girl appears and gives him a story which he doesn’t believe. She tells him that she is someone from a past life, where he is her king and she’s his knight. She tells him that she wants to stand by his side and be of assistance to him. You do learn the meaning of the past lives this later in the OVA though you’ll have to pay attention since it’s a visual clue, a brief one at that.

Juu wants nothing to do with Ame since he thinks she is crazy and her actions would definitely lead someone to believe that. But while all this is going on, there are murders happening around the city and Ame seems to have some knowledge into what’s going on. Continue reading

Angel Beats! (Enjeru Bītsu!?)

Published by:

Angel Beats is set in a high school that’s in limbo. The students who inhabit this high school are already dead. They still feel pain as if they were alive. They can also die in this limbo but they awaken with no injuries or memory of what happened.

The story starts with Otanashi who has no memory of what happened to him and he lands right in the middle of a battle. He is greeted by Yurippe, who you would think is Haruhi Suzumiya with an M-16. Continue reading

What Anime is Killswitch Currently Checking Out? April 7th edition

Published by:

I decided to give people a peek at the shows I’m watching on a weekly basis instead of the ones that I can shotgun marathon because they’re already finished shows. 3 of these shows will be on the list for a while since they’re current shows but the other spots will be open.

First up is Assassination Classroom. I went to check what’s selling in Japan so I can compare and contrast with some ideas I had and then I found this one. Print media is slipping but Assassination Classroom is still holding strong.

The show is about an alien who has come to destroy the planet, like he did to the moon. He is giving the people of Earth a chance to survive but it all depends on kids who are the lowest class in school. They’re not delinquents, except for one but they don’t test well. They’re Earth’s last hope and no one outside of this classroom knows it. Continue reading

Mysterious Girlfriend X (Nazo no Kanojo Ekkusu)

Published by:

Mysterious Girlfriend X… I’m honestly at a loss here. It’s not the worst that I’ve seen but wow, this one really was hard to get through.

I don’t like to kill plots for people or give spoilers, it’s a review not a book report on the show, but in this case it’s really the basis for the whole show. The show revolves around one central theme. Drool, tasting drool, giving drool, desiring drool. It’s really just…bleh.

Tsubaki, the main protagonist, seems like an ordinary kid until a new mystery girl transfers into his school. She is just a strange character from the very beginning but has everyone’s attention, especially Tsubaki. When class ended one day, Tsubaki found himself with her in the classroom. She was face down on her desk, drooling. This is where we find that he has an obsession with drool, he wakes her up and when she isn’t looking, he tastes her drool on the desk. Continue reading

The Comic Artist and Assistants (Mangaka-san to Ashisutanto-san to)

Published by:

The Comic Artist and His Assistants is another series of short episodes. There are 12 episodes but each one runs about 10 minutes or so not counting the opening and ending credits. The series is based around a perverted, otaku, manga author named Yuki who seems to want to fall in love with everyone close to him, especially his assistant Ashisu. Plus his desire to draw panties is another prevailing storyline here but he takes it a step further than just that. Ashisu, is put into awkward situations and is forced to cope with Yuki’s behavior.

I picked this one up thinking that it might be different and show the actual life of a mangaka. It does show it somewhat but exaggerated and of course hastened because the show is not very long. If they decided to lengthen it, they have all the parts needed for something decent. But it looks like a production committee one-shot. Continue reading

Scrambling…

Published by:

Feels like forever ago when I thought this thing would be done. Astra Etherium: Adventures of a Space Bounty Hunter in Space is moving into the final stages (I thought it was there before but some issues came up.) The game really was supposed to be much simpler but then we added speech, had to change art, went through several music people…it just kept going on and on and on. It will feel like a weight lifted off my shoulders when this thing is finally out there. Hopefully someone out there likes it. Hopefully more than one.

Comical Psychosomatic Medicine (Manga de Wakaru Shinryōnaika)

Published by:

I wanted to check out some of the newer anime that is getting greenlit by the production committees and I came across this one. Comical Psychosomatic Medicine. This show is not a groundbreaking show by any means. It’s a short, gag comedy show about real issues that people have.

Doctor Ryo Shinnai and his nurse Asuna explain these conditions with comedic results, sometimes. Ryo is the straight man in all this, trying to explain these conditions while Asuna is the one who brings in the punchlines. She is joined by her sister and others in trying to deliver the funny. This is where the issues come in. The show is supposed to be funny, jokes with bad taste, etc. Some of the jokes just don’t make sense. Other times they’re right on the mark in terms of getting you to laugh. Continue reading
